Crystal Charters creates private trips to iconic spots like Stingray City, offering families, couples, and groups a true slice of paradise. After COVID-19 halted tourism, founder Michael Leacock rebuilt smarter, ensuring the business came back stronger and ready for long-term success.
The Challenge.
When COVID-19 hit, Crystal Charters’ boat charter business was completely obliterated as tourism disappeared overnight. But rebuilding wasn’t just about waiting for tourists to return, it meant rethinking the entire business model.
Even after pivoting to a leaner lease model with local boat owners, two major obstacles blocked expansion: wire transfer fees of $50-$100 per transaction that made regional growth impossible, and the inability to secure reliable online payment gateways as a Cayman Islands-based company.
Despite being in one of the world’s most famous tax-free jurisdictions, Crystal Charters couldn’t access modern payment infrastructure, creating an ironic barrier to growth.
