Does Having a DBA Affect Taxes or Legal Liability?

This is one of the biggest misunderstandings about DBAs. 

No, having a DBA does not change how your business is taxed. It doesn’t provide any legal protection, separate liability, or create a new business entity. It’s not your legal shield! 

If you’re a sole proprietor operating under a DBA, your business income is still reported on your personal tax return. Same goes for LLCs or corporations. Filing a DBA doesn’t impact your tax classification with the IRS.
